I picked up a set of 16x7 rims of my 98 SL1 and i need new tires. I am looking at (for summer usage only)..

Kumho ECSTA SPT KU31 .... 205/45R16
Kumho ECSTA SPT KU31 .... 215/40R16

Kumho ECSTA 711 .... 205/40R16 ... this is what are on the rims now (1 or 2 tires could be used as back up.)

Falken ZE-512 Tires .... 215/40ZR16
Falken ZE-512 Tires .... 205/45R16

Any thoughts or experiences with these tire models... I will be using them as summer only (obviously)

what's your Opinion?

what BFG model / lines do you recommend, for summer then?

my stock tire height is 23.6ish... I don't see a suitable size on there webpage (I could be blind, and missing it)

I have the Falken ZE-512 (205-40-17) They are great for what I use them for, which is just summer driving. Nothing extreme. I don't slide in the rain, and there isn't really any road noise from them. Like I said thought, they are great for what I use them for, you have to look at what you will be using them for.

The 512's are a good, cheap, all season that does everything well enough.

The 711's are a good, cheap,hi po summer only tire.

Of the BFG stuff, I can only recommend the KDW's for ultra hi po summer only usage, but they're expensive. I've used them myself and they stick quite well, in a straight line and in cornering. 205/50/15 on a stock saturn teardrop 15x6 rim.

The current tire of choice for all rounded performance seems to be the Falken RT615, or the less popular and harder to find Hankook RS2.

Definetely get the 215/40's, shorter sidewall and wider tread width.

In your size, I'd expect the RT615's or the RS2's to be about $625 a set installed, taxes in from Tires23.com in missisauga.
Dont quote me on that price though. In my experience, they have some of the best prices around.

I have a set of SPTs 205/55/15, and have yet to try them. From all the reviews I've read, them and the Yokohama AVS 1000 are the best tires under The RT615, or the Kumho MX.

i'm runnin the falken ziexs too they are a good tire like kate said, not too expensive to pick them up either, decent quality and i find no road noise with mine either and they handle really well in wet weather!!!, i'll prob switch to the RT615's when i replace tires

thanks for all the Input!!....

to make things more complicated... tire23 quoted me

205/45/16 General Exclaim UHP $430/set Tax in, mounted and balanced

They seem to have good reviews, they use that Silica tread tech that Kumho uses on the SPT and others... Apparently much better traction especially in wet.

My application will mainly be commuting to work... plus i am currently running 175/70r14 toyo ulta800's, so I'm sure there will be a performance increase.

I may try these Generals... but I'm still undecided

General tires = CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAP!!!!!! (decent tread designs, but thats all LOL)

I run pirelli (pzero nero) love them.. they stick the roads, and are excellent in the rain. i didn't have much choice for my tires... bfg kdw or pzero nero... the reviews put the pirelli WAY above the bfg. There is just something about the kdw that doesn't appeal to me ...maybe the tread, and when you think about rain, etc.. then you will kinda think about what i mean. If you want inexpensive...go for Nexen.. decent tire, priced perfect!!

next step up i would say is the falken...

followed by kuhmo..
followed by hankook / bfg
followed by yoko
followed by toyo and pirelli

just my $0.02

but seeing them all, and selling them all personally as well, that is the levels that i would say. :)
