I have a 2003 Ion Quad Coupe with the 2.2 Eco engine. Taking a look at my dipstick the other day, I noticed that when I cleaned it off to check the oil, there was a lot of metal flakes in it. Also don't know how but the dipstick looks like its been chewed up a little. The engine is also running really rough, which has progressively been getting worse, at an idle or getting off the highway, it seems to convulse (for lack of a better term) and doesnt stop for the entire time its running. Also when off of a fresh start the car will shake, time to time it has stalled out on me.

I am at wits end with the car and am ready to trade it in, any ideas?

That is some serious wear.. what kind of oil are you using and how often are you changing it?

Rod bearings chewed up perhaps? or broke a piston ring / ring land? When theres metal in the oil basically its time for the motor to come out.

If I was a guessing person, I would think the timing chain guides are run down already. Same thing happened on my SL when the guides went. Depends on how many miles are on it and how well you take care of it. Although, 2.2 seem to have a sore spot for timing stuff. Also, power would run off to with worn timing stuff.
