does anyone know which dohc engine i can swap into a sohc 1998 saturn sl1, my girlfriend has a saturn and its at 240xxx miles on it, and she really likes her car, its in really good condition except for the engine, so i was just wondering what engine would be compatible with it, and will the ecu need to be reflashed, and will it matter if her car is an auto with manual wins and door lock, and the donor car is all powered? id really appreciate any help you can give me.

From what i researched, you will need the ECU from the donor car.

the SOHC auto trans isn't really the best to put in a DOHC car, (again from what i researched the tranny will not handle the dohc)

manual on the other hand i have seen work with both transmissions.

some other stuff i came across, the engine harness should be changed, but can still be used if you file the locator pins off.

I got lots of information from www.differentracing.com

Get the dohc pcm for a 98. A 95-99 dohc motor (as long as the exhaust manifold has 5bolts to head).
And as far as transmission, you will have to swap to the mp7 (dohc auto trans), the pcm controls the auto trans and they are geared differently between the sohc and dohc.
