Friday night I made my first trip to a drag strip,
My best time was
17.49
77.4 mph
rt .178

Then the next day my rad died, the coolant runs right through it on to the ground. The rad problem had nothing to do with my visit to the track but the timing is ironic.

Hopefully, after some tuning and a new rad I can get into the very high 16's

Congrats! It's always fun your first time, but you'll like it more and more as you keep on going back... just be smart and dont spend too much money on the SOHC ;)

What was your 60 foot time? That'll determine how close/far into the 16's you'll get from your current time.

That's actually pretty good for your first time out!

Stickier tires will help you lower that, but tires alone wont get you into the 16's... more likely around 17.25.

What mods have you done so far?

Just my 2.5" crush bent exhaust with high flow cat, and a drop in K&N filter (coil overs but those aren't really a speed thing)
And no spare tire for weight reduction of course :)

Sounds like a good start, but if you really wanna go fast..........don't put too much into the SOHC, save your money for a DOHC swap, it is hands down the best thing you can do to go faster

QFT, it's by far the best way to spend any money on making a SOHC faster.

Otherwise, just get some sticky 205/50/15's on the car, take out the stereo, and maybe get an SAFC.

Older topic but I thought i would point out that I almost made it to high 16's by the end of the summer. I made it down to 17.02. That was 0.47 off my fist time.
