I just bought myself a new iPod touch a week back, and my brother is going to sell me his iPod ready deck.

Im going to make an in-car dock for the ipod, that, when the ipod is docked, can be charged and used on the Deck, google maps, and the like.

Im trying to find an appropriate spot for the iPod dock to go, but I'm not sure yet.

It's a 95' SC1 it's going into.

what does the dock look like? Personally I would always put it near the shifter, as my hand are always down there for shifting.

The dock looks something like this:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/W ... m=MB125G/A

Although, I won't be just placing the dock onto a surface of my interior. I will be cutting out an area in the interior so that the ipod sits flush with the rest of the interior, making it look like it was built for the car.

I've been thinking about making one of my cup holders into a ipod mount (the passenger side one), but I'm not too sure yet...

my Ipod just crapped out and I got a new touch too... I love the google maps feature. I gotta put my Ipod somewhere cooler, I just put it in my glove box (I also have the Ipod ready deck)

Middle of your steering wheel! :D That would be sweet especially when you take the airbag out.

I like the idea but don't do it because I like it.

Are you telling me not to do it because you want to do it?
or not to do it only because you said to do it?

Ive also considered mounting it in between the steering wheel and the gauge cluster, so that I can see it through the steering wheel.
Although, I still haven't tested to see how much space it would take up and how much of the cluster I could see if I did do that.

I plugged my Touch into my car and when you plug it in the screen just says its been plugged into an external device... so I'm not sure if you'd want to see "Plugged into External Source" all the time... Unless it will play videos and run the audio through the car, other then that, might aswell hide it somewhere

Actually, Im not sure if you noticed, but when you plug in your iPod touch into your car, it will say "plugged into an external device". But once you see that, you can click the home button, and then "slide to unlock" and then you have all of the applications available for you to control (minus music and videos).

The touch is the first iPod that I haven't thought was completely stupid. I think it's great that it does all that extra stuff and doesn't rely on a retardedly big hard drive to sell it. Honestly, who has 80 gigs of music? The 8 or 16 available in the touch is more than enough I think. Personally I'd rather see a psp dock come out though, and some deck support for it. With GPS coming out soon on the psp, it'll soon be the ultimate car companion.
